Gentle music- perhaps a few melancholic guitar strumming or some notes on the piano, clubbed with the right words rising high and low like a tide is enough to sweep an audience off their feet. That is Spoken Word Poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Poetry performances have immense social and emotional power. Spoken Word Poetry has many aspects that make it so captivating. Some of them are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It teaches us to communicate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Communicating our thoughts effectively and forming a connection with the listener is a great skill. A Spoken Word Poem is a conversation between the poet and the audience. If we are able to hone that skill, this art can be a means to communicate important messages to the world, and we mean really communicate!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Introducing introspection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
When Spoken Word Poetry is used as a way to communicate, it urges the listeners to look within themselves and ask the right questions- in short it urges them to introspect and then express themselves in a safe space via this art. After all, the answers are all within us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It helps you turn life’s experiences, whether good or bad into something more tangible, something you can really feel and then let go of, resulting in healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we are listening to someone perform Spoken Word Poetry we are captivated by both the music and the words that follow. We stop to listen intently and then ponder over the message. It gives a chance for people to articulate experiences and be truly heard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, we aren’t. Cecelia Ahern wrote in the book “P.S. I Love You,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we listen to stories of overcoming, of pain, of hurt, of love and wars, of the mundane things of life, we know that there’s someone else out there, or maybe more people than we know experiencing the same things we are, in their own unique way, and that makes us feel not quite alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
