At school, many of these distractions aren’t even present. So how can any student, even the most responsible ones, study efficiently when they’re not in the school environment?

To all the studious kids out there, your home environment might not be the ideal study space, but fret not! There are plenty of ways you can work with what you’ve got or get a little creative to make it work, no matter where you’re living. Here are a few simple things that students can do in their everyday life to make sure that they are productive while they’re working from home.

Create a Distraction-Free Study Environment

The key to studying at home is by creating a space within our home that has some of the benefits of a school or library, with as few of the distractions of the home as possible. A bedroom might work or else in worst case you can hideout in your balcony and enjoy the company of the stars as you do some studying.

Following a School-Like Schedule

Set up a study schedule

One of the easiest ways to focus and be productive like we do in school is by working on the same schedule we would when we’re in school. Similarly to how we spend consecutive periods in different subjects during the school day, we can set a schedule for ourselves that has us spend a certain amount of consecutive hours studying each subject every day.

Always Take Breaks

It’s okay to take breaks from time to time during the day as often as we need to. Mind that, these won’t be long breaks as we don’t want to lose our motivation! But we can take 15 minutes here and there to clear our head, recharge, and be ready to tackle those books again at full force.

Form Virtual Study Groups

Join virtual study groups

There are numerous benefits to virtual study groups. Some video conferencing platforms such as skype, zoom, etc allow us to record our meetings, so that we can look back on the study session we and our peers had if we ever forget what was said.

Set Boundaries For Yourself

We should set time limits and goals for ourselves each day. Maybe we won’t start working until mid-morning so that we can go for a run and eat a healthy breakfast. We can also consider setting physical boundaries for ourselves and the joy of achieving each goal everyday will give us the motivation to work harder.

Exercise Regularly

Take a break and exercise

It is proven that exercising can give our body the endorphins and serotonin that it needs to be relaxed, focused, and more productive during the day. Thus, it is important to keep our body fit and exercise at least once a day. There are tons of YouTube videos with quick workouts, and they don’t have to be boring and will help us stay productive and focused.

Always reward yourself

At the end of the day, if we’re truly not feeling like we’re studying our best, we should try to set some goals for ourselves and reward ourselves for hitting those goals. When we have to study from home for a while, it can be easy to fall into a rut. So staying positive can really help to keep us going forward.

Although studying at home can seem easy because it’s so convenient, procrastination and distraction can get in the way of you efficiently producing your best work. Thus, the more we practice these tips the sooner we’ll start to see our at home productivity grow.

At home, we have to do our best to avoid the lure of our phone, the TV, our laptop, our bed, and so much more!
