Devanahalli is a small town in Bengaluru district located 40 kilometers north-east of Bengaluru city. It has developed as a well-facilitated region near the outskirts of Bengaluru city resembling Dwarka and Noida in Delhi NCR and Navi Mumbai in Mumbai city. Bengaluru is known to be the IT hub of India attracting millions of young workers in the city. Many well known private IT companies such Infosys, Wipro, etc. have their headquarters in the Bengaluru. A large number of small-scale IT companies and start-ups have also flocked in the city owing to the great exposure it offers to IT companies and its employees. Besides this, Department of Income Tax’s Centralized Processing Centre is also based in Bengaluru. It is the capital of Karnataka which means the city houses a large number of government offices. This has lead to humongous increase in the city’s population and received tremendous influx of work-age youth in the past several years. This in turn, again attracts new companies to set up their offices in Bengaluru and a chain of exponential population growth is established. The population of Bengaluru is 8.5 million according to the 2011 Census which makes it one of the biggest cosmopolitan of India in terms of population. As a result, urban areas have developed haphazardly leading to many problems such as pollution, encroachment, etc. This has lead to an increase in demand for development of planned residential societies in sub-urban areas having close proximity with the cosmopolitan. Despite many viable sub-urban areas around the city, Devanahalli has proved to be the most promising one and as a result, it has been extensively developed in planned manner in the past 15 years. Even though it’s not a strictly a sub-urban region but many factors has led to it being the most preferred location for residential purposes. Consequently, Devanahalli is seen by some people as a gateway to Bengaluru. Fifteen years back, as you’d drive through Devanahalli, you will see farms, dhabas and typical rural infrastructure on your way to Hyderabad. But now, the same place is completely transformed into a modern-day town with world-class infrastructure and facilities. Here are a few reasons why this happened. This town has served as terminal point for Bengaluru to grow as a city because after Bengaluru being wholly consumed, the government turned its attention towards this town for establishing the IT parks and other development projects. The presence of the ultra-modern Kempegowda International Airport in the locality played a major role in attracting that attention. This locality also has access to abundant water supply, is well-planned, has better connectivity with the city and there are a number of projects prospected to come in the locality. Also, the declaration of establishment of Bagmane SEZ in North Bengaluru region is one the main contributing factors because of its closeness to Devanahalli. Thus, it can be said that Devanahalli has a promising future to be the centre of development in the region.
