The Mindful Break is back for the third year running!
We live in stressful times: harried and struggling through the daily grind, too busy to notice what is going on around us. We binge watch our favourite shows on Netflix, thinking that vegging out in front of the TV screen will help us to unwind. But the constantly on culture – work, meetings, home, family commitments, binge watching television shows, mindlessly scrolling through social media – can actually do us more harm than good.
Our brains need a pause – some time to disconnect from everything that is happening all over the world, and to focus on that which is right in front of us – a mindful break. Build in a few of these breaks throughout your day and see what happens – I bet you will notice things around you that you hadn’t before; and that you will find that stressful situations don’t drain you out as much as they used to.
But going from always on to remembering to take breaks isn’t always easy. And so, I created The Mindful Break. This simple 15-day photography challenge on Instagram can help you to remember to take a pause…to become aware of your surroundings – at the sky above you, the earth below your feet, the desk in front of you. Focus on the present moment, pause there a while, and then share a photograph of your daily moments of mindfulness.
This is a simple and easy way for you to begin to cultivate a mindfulness practice along with some accountability as you start to build a new habit!
The rules of the challenge are very simple:
- Post 1 photo a day (or more if you wish) on Instagram using #TheMindfulBreak hashtag
- Take a look at the activity in the hashtag to chat with new peeps, find some interesting new Instagram accounts to follow, and to create accountability
- Add a link to your Instagram account below so we can all find new peeps to interact with and follow
There is no compulsion to follow anyone and you don’t have to be a blogger to participate. Just share your photographs on Instagram using #TheMindfulBreak hashtag and have fun! (Oh, and make sure your Instagram account isn’t set to private, or we won’t be able to find you!)
The challenge runs on Instagram from 15 to 31 October. Join in + spread the word!
