Many times we face a question from the community:

Blog came first or the blogger.

And answer to this question does not qualify under degree of correctness but defines a path of blogging you finally decide to choose.

Surprised?

Yes. When a person decides to blog his identity changes into that of a ‘blogger’. This same person can have multiple blogs and yet his or her identity remains constant as Blogger.

A blog is an extension of YOU. You are the Blog.

Should we simplify? It basically gets derived from the notion that Personal brand is more important than content brand in blogging. People are choosing blogging over conventional journalism because of this innate personal touch that content presents in case of a blog.

This personal touch is derived from your Personal Brand.

As you can see there is an exact opposite school of thought that does exist where content is greater than creator. But we feel that is more conventional and at times following it removes the charm that online interactions can present.

How does this evolve your Blogging Ethics?

1 Your brand associations are your Blog’s brand associations

It’s seamless. There is no difference between the two now. So a sponsored post on your blog gets extended to you as well. You may not be expected by the brand to behave so but your readers subconsciously do, so choose wisely.

2 Content is extension of YOU

This is important. Navigate your content choices in line with your personal brand. Do not post anything that defies your online persona. Do not take stands on your blog that the person (that is you) cannot defend in real life.

3 If your blog is dead, so are you

This sounds harsh but we often try to explain this to people. You are what you are because of your blog. That bond is irreversible, death of a blog should impact you if not destroy you. Hence your blogging schedules must be kept at par with this spirit

4 Aesthetically connect the two

We feel a blog must have a face. It should have a behind the scenes page including bio, achievements, etc. This helps the reader identify who the blogger is

5 If there are more than one person

Always an interesting scene. Then blog is not only an extension of you two but also an extension of your bond. You have more anchors to create in your personal brand. One should see the two (or more) of you in your blog and even live the relationship that you share.

Around the challenge we have built up a rather interesting festival as well called the Blogchatter Writing Festival– celebrating the blogger to author journey.

Did we say author?

Oh wait. Have you not seen last year’s post challenge Blogchatter Ebook carnival? Championed by Chitra Divakaruni we received twenty six ebooks during the month of May all self-published by our community members.

This time we have eight popular authors who are coming along as part of our mentor program for festival, taking up special twitter chats and facebook live sessions to further your publishing dream. Read more here: Blogchatter Writing Festival

As part of Festival we will once again be opening our portals for your self-published ebooks (in case you choose to convert your April blogging challenge into one). You can ping us here or anywhere you find us for queries, etc.

This month we will also be taking up the #AtoZChallenge with you. Celebrating better blogging across platforms through our theme:
