It’s Christmas eve tomorrow and we can’t contain our excitement. Our favourite part of the holiday is getting cozied up on the couch, with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and an endless marathon of our favourite Christmas movies.
Since Christmas is a festival of spreading joy, we want to do our part by sharing with you a list of our favourite Christmas movies!
From Home Alone and Elf to classics like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, we’ve made our list of great holiday films and checked it at least twice. Now, to all you nice boys and girls out there, we present the best Christmas movies ever!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
In 2000, Jim Carrey put on a big green Grinch suit to bring the famous cartoon to life. Warning! There’s a pretty gross cheese-eating scene but it passes because Jim Carrey can pull it off.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
After finding himself in a bout of seasonal depression (how relatable), Charlie Brown tries to put together a Christmas play before Linus reminds him what the true meaning of Christmas is.
Elf (2003)
Will Ferrell is a clownish orphan raised by Santa and his elves in the North Pole who journeys to New York City to locate his biological father in this absurd but sweet fish-out-of-water fantasy.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
The Tim Burton specialty is a masterful work of visual tricks and treats, in a creepy way that only he can accomplish.
A Christmas Carol (1951)
Still the finest adaptation of Charles Dickens’ legendary tale, this superb feature charts the familiar Christmas Eve ordeal of nasty miser Ebenezer Scrooge who’s visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
Home Alone (1990)
Macaulay Culkin is forgotten by his family and forced to battle a couple of dimwit thieves around Christmas in this enduring children’s adventure.
Happiest Season (2020)
It’s a frequently very funny movie that gives off warm and twinkly holiday vibes while also retaining a hefty amount of bite. One of the few LGBTQIA+ holiday movies, this one is a must-watch!
Almost Christmas (2016)
Few holiday movies actually capture the chaotic feeling of a house under siege from family members. Almost Christmas understands the way families bicker, tease, and ultimately come together over the holiday season.
Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)
This mandatory Christmas adventure finds Ernest and Mr. Claus on a mission to retrieve the powerful gift-giving knapsack. Ernest’s naiveté makes him the perfect manchild for the holiday season!
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
Few films define Christmas like Frank Capra’s 1946 fantasy starring Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, who, on the verge of committing suicide, is visited by an angel who shows him the true importance of his life.
If you enjoyed reading this list as much as we enjoyed making it, we consider our work done. Write to us and let us know about some of your favorite Christmas rituals!
