Today is a very special day as we celebrate the birthday of the legendary heartthrob of Hindu Mythology, none other than the infamous, Vāsudeva-Krishna (commonly addressed as Krishna). He is the 8th avatar of Vishnu who is believed to have lived a very simple and human life. Even though he is considered the Supreme God, he is so mischievous, naughty, vibrant, scholastic, and dynamic at the same time. He could simply be called the epitome of the purest form of love. Obviously, we saw this coming. Didn’t we?
Lord Krishna is by far one of the most famous and revered deities across India and the world. Since the 1960s, the worship of Lord Krishna has spread across the Western World, largely due to the work of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Just reciting the mantra “HARE KRISHNA” acts as a powerful method to awaken the inner peace within us, as believed by many. Sure, he is handsome, kind, charming, intellectually and all, but what is it about him that makes everyone love him universally? Let’s dive deep and make some wild guesses. Shall we?
A true friend for life
He is that one friend we all want to be part of our lives, who guides us, treats us like a family, a brother, and is the greatest supporter at all costs. His true love for his friends can be seen in his relationship with Sudama, arjuna, and especially Draupadi. It is said that Krishna and Draupadi shared an iconic relationship. Krishna called Draupadi Sakhi (a she-friend) and she called him Sakha (a friend who happens to be a male). Even in this era, where a friendship between a male and female is seen only through the wrong lens, Imagine this kind of friendship thousands of centuries ago. Truly Fascinating!
The Lord of pranks
Come on. Who can even forget the mischievous pranks that he had pulled in order to attract the attention of all the ladies or infamously called the gopis? He is such a ladies’ man. He has been adored by everyone for being a playful trickster. Right from stealing butter to slaying demons, everything is an act of fun for him. But will others feel the same? Definitely not!
A perfect role model for all the foodies
Talk about having a role model for being a food lover. That too from thousands of centuries ago. Crazy! But there is no denying the fact that, his tales depict that he is a born foodie like many of us. The only difference is that our mothers are hiding the cookies and other junk food from us while Yashoda was terribly failing at hiding butter. Once in a while, such craziness can be allowed. After all, food gives us happiness.
A knight in golden armour
His act of chivalry has won him some winning points from women. Well, here is, to the perfect gentleman that all the ladies are searching for. Unfortunately, ladies, he doesn’t exist, or not at least now. Lord Krishna can be called a savior, a defender, or the protector of the world. He became the last hope for Draupadi, helping her in such a traumatizing situation that no one in the world deserves. Just by doing nothing, he does everything magically.
A great mentor
Think, what would have happened to the Pandavas, if not for Krishna? Maybe the result of the epic Kurukshetra war could have been the other way around. The tables would have turned for sure. His teaching is not restricted, it is for people all around the world irrespective of religion, race etc. All his teachings are recorded in the holy book of Bhagavat Gita. His most famous teaching of Karma is “Do your ‘Karma’, not to garner result or success but to do good”.
The ideal Prince Charming
His legendary love story with Radha can never be overlooked. Many people want to have what they both shared, eternal love. His relationship with Radha is known for its soulful and divine existence. It is believed that Krishna enchants the world, but Radha enchants even him. Awweee… Even though he married other women, these childhood sweetheart’s love has stood the testament of time and still remains an evergreen romance after all this time. Together they are called as Radha-Krishna. Such a cute couple’s name. How can we not ship them? We are bound to fall for them hard.
Celebrate this Janmashtami aka his birthday with utmost joy and love. Do share your thoughts if you agree with us. And are you one of them who felt heartbroken knowing Krishna and Radha did not end up together? Write to us and let us know!
