Victoria Memorial Square, Toronto: A Peaceful Park Built on History - Neerja's Musings
Victoria Memorial Square is Toronto’s oldest European cemetery, established in 1793–94 by Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe for the nearby Garrison at Fort York. The first burial was Simcoe’s infant daughter, Katherine. Over nearly seven decades, the ground became the final resting place for approximately 400 soldiers and family members, including War of 1812 casualties. I recently visited this place.
