Be it light or heavy, baked or fried, snacks have a special place in Indian diet history. Every child has some fond memories of Indian snacks that they gulped after coming back from the playground or during their exam preparation breaks. Though Indian mothers are fond of preparing snacks at home and saving them for weeks, kids prefer small nothings from the market. Let’s dive into popular snacks from the 90s that hold a warm space in our hearts even today.
Phantom sweet cigarettes
This was a revolution in itself. While growing up children understood the phrase ‘cigarettes’ and its health effects but secretly they were curious to know more. This toffee in the market sold like millions in the era that tasted sweet and children used to enact like smokers. The pack was finished soon with the urge to buy a new one.
Swad digestive drops
These toffees were in almost every household and were a must after a meal to give you a tangerine taste and digest your food as well. Kids used to take them as often as they liked without fearing sour throat after overconsumption of Swad. It had that typical taste of Heeng, Zeera and Suanf mixed together to give you a combination of all digestive spices in one toffee.
2 minutes Maggi
This is still every family’s delight. It’s the perfect snack for every evening that is prepared in just 2-minutes. In fact, its popularity gained momentum when Maggi was the only snack that can be prepared even on a heater and can be consumed at any odd hour of the day, be it 3 AM. Easily available at all outlets, the brand has still maintained its low price giving accessibility to all.
Cadbury’s Nutties
The red small box full of dark crunchy chocolates is called Nutties. It was the favourite of every chocolate lover who wants to take a bite while playing or sitting at a place watching TV. There was even a big tin available at that time and maybe even today. But the brand has really taken efforts to maintain the same taste even today.
Marie biscuit
Marie biscuit which we will forever pronounce “maari” biscuit and love forever even though it’s the first to melt in chai and become a squishy puddle at the bottom of your cup. Anyone person in the family loved this biscuit, especially, the older parents as this biscuit melted within seconds in the mouth and it happens even today.
There are plenty of Indian snacks, particularly toffees that make you nostalgic and you love to stay in the old era for some time. That’s why these are available today also. Did you find your favourite Indian snack?
