Fun Hairstyles That Aren’t a Bun for Hot Summer Days

If we ask you what your go-to summer hairstyle is, you might probably say a messy bun or a ponytail. But mom buns and high ponies are not so cool, right? At least that is what Gen Z claims. So, we decided to come up with some adorable yet practical hairstyles that would make you look cool(er) this summer.
French Braid
Let’s start with the classic French braid.
A French braid has an additional step to a traditional three strand braid. It follows the same process as crossing the left strand over the middle strand, right strand over the middle strand and repeating the process. For a French Braid, follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1/ Start from the top, crown, or side of your head.
Step 2/ Begin the traditional three strand braiding process. However, every time you cross a side strand over a middle strand, scoop in extra hair from that side of your head.
Step 3/ Continue the pattern all the way down and seal it with a hair tie.
For an added twist, French braid only till the nape of your head and finish off with a regular three strand braid.
Dutch Braid
A Dutch braid is very much similar to a French braid only with a minor difference. In this hairstyle, every time you cross the side strands, you go underneath the middle strand and not over it. For this very reason, Dutch braid is also referred to as reverse French braid and inside-out braid. Because the plaiting is done reverse, a Dutch braid creates a fuller, thick look.
Topsy Tail Braid
This is a fun upgrade of the traditional braid. Best suited for long hair, we know someone from our team who loves this hairstyle. Checkout our Instagram stories @bestorified for deets.
Step 1/ For this hairstyle, comb all your hair and tie it together with an elastic band.
Step 2/ Tie a second elastic band about three inches below the first band.
Step 3/ Create a gap in between the two elastic bands. Flip the end through this gap to create a little twist.
Step 4/ Now slightly pull the edges of this twist to make it look voluminous.
Step 5/ If you have long hair, repeat the steps by tying another elastic band three inches below the second band. Create a gap, flip the ends, create a twist, pull the edges.
That’s it. It is super quick and easy and is perfect for a beach day. To make it even more interesting, try this hairstyle as a side braid. For this, bring your hair to one side over a shoulder and repeat the process.
Braided Bun Updo
Got medium length hair? We have got you covered.
Step 1/ Make a high pony.
Step 2/ Divide the ponytail into two sections and create two braids.
Step 3/ Twist each braid around into a bun and secure with bobby pins.
Step 4/ If you may, clip a hair bow on top or below the braided bun.
Adorable max, don’t you think? You may also accessorize the braided bun by:
a. Tying a scarf or stole around it.
b. Adding a small flower or butterfly hair clip.
c. Tying a plaid ribbon or lace around it.
Rope Braid
If there is a perfect late-to-work, workout, or just-washed hairstyle, this is it. A rope braid will only take you a few extra seconds than a messy bun.
Step 1/ Create a simple ponytail, high or low according to your preference.
Step 2/ Divide the ponytail into two sections and twist them together.
Step 3/ Secure with an elastic band.
