Egham is a university town situated in the northeast of Surrey, approximately 19 miles west of Central London. Ecga’s Ham was granted to the Abbot of Chertsey and remained under the control of Chertsey Abbey for much of the Middle Ages. It was during the reign of King John that Egham would achieve fame when in 1215, Magna Carta was sealed by King John at Runnymede, to the north of Egham.
