Temple of Rats, Bikaner, Rajasthan
Have you ever visited the “Temple of Rats” in Bikaner, Rajasthan?
Back in October 2016, I was covering Narendra Bhawan, but the magnetic pull of Karni Mata Temple—famously known as the Temple of Rats—was impossible to resist.
Dedicated to Karni Mata, Bikaner’s patron deity, this temple is unlike any other. Here, rats are not feared but revered. Thousands of them, known as kabbas, are believed to be Karni Mata’s own kin. Devotees offer them milk, grains, sweets—and their unwavering faith.
