HPV (Human papillomavirus) is the most commonly transmitted viral infection of the reproductive tract.

Nearly all sexually active people are infected with HPV within months to a few years of becoming sexually active. Around half of these infections are with a high-risk HPV type.

It’s important to note that everybody is exposed to HPV and most sexually active people end up contracting HPV at some point in their lives.

There is no treatment for the virus itself. But, there are treatments for the health problems that HPV can cause e.g. Genital warts, Cervical precancer and other HPV-related cancers.

There is however, a preventive vaccine for HPV. Your doctor can provide you with more information for it.
