Leena Malhotra: A Mother, A Poet
“If a creative writer is Devki, then a translator is Yashoda,” quips Malhotra. In 'Ek Maa Ki Prarthana,' I liked her conceit of praying to many gods to keep her daughter safe. After all, we have 33 crore gods, so naturally this clever mother is putting them to work! Somehow this sounds better in the original, perhaps because I know Hindi. Its simplicity shines through.
